The Veteran Affairs Community Care Network (VA CCN) is a program that allows veterans to get healthcare services in their communities instead of having to go to a VA facility. It connects veterans with local healthcare providers who have agreements with the VA. The goal is to make it easier and faster for veterans to receive the care they need, closer to where they live.

The CCN contracts with third-party administrators (TPAs) to develop and administer five regional networks with high-performing licensed healthcare providers. The VA awarded contracts to Optum in 2018 to manage provider networks for Regions 1, 2, and 3, covering 39 states and territories. TriWest was awarded the contract in 2019 and manages Regions 4 and 5, covering 16 states and territories.

An RFP expected to be released in 2025 or early 2026 for a 2027 effective date. TPAs and health plans that expect to bid on VA CCN regions in the next contract cycle should begin their analysis now in order to determine network requirements, conduct feasibility analysis, and assess the resources needed to support a network build of this magnitude.
